Thursday
Last night Matt and I went out to dinner with my Dad and his wife. We went to a Greek restaurant and had some good appetizers and I ordered a veggie kabob that was delicious. It was nice to catch up and discuss more wedding plans, things are coming along very nicely. We've chosen our caterer, sent out save the dates (almost all of them), and now we have the rest of the months to plan decorations, center pieces, flowers, cupcakes, and those sorts of things. Last night we got on the topic of religion and spirituality. It was an interesting discussion and I always enjoy hearing what other people have to say about such topics because the truth is few people really know exactly how we got here, what we're doing here, and what's going to happen next, I say few because I don't know if someone might have all the answers, I have not met that person, but it's possible they exist. I do believe we all came from that same power and it's just interesting to hear how others perceive it and use it (or not) in their daily lives. It's the highest most important, most connecting thing between all of us, yet we rarely honestly discuss it. Maybe because we're scared, or unsure, or maybe it doesn't even enter your mind and you just go about your lives regardless of the answers or questions for that matter. It is such a remarkable path we have to take and all the choices we can make. Each day I find it easier to be presently happy than regretful or anxious about the future. Random, I know.... but perhaps it sparks a question or answer in your mind.

what goes up
good morning! i want you to realize that i know at the end of these blogs it says "lindsay and matt" when we all know that so far lindsay is the only writer (matt said he enjoys reading it more than writing on it). i could change this, but i haven't figured out how and truthfully i don't really care all that much. just wanted to let you know that i am aware.
i know there are exciting things happening on the internet, facebook, blogging (my fav) and twitter and whatever else i am missing. but honestly, i get bored with the internet pretty quickly. i do enjoy writing on it, and reading other peoples thoughts but that is about it. i feel any extra time i have besides relaxing, i would like to spend it working on my personal art and eventually sharing it online with others, but until then adding another group that i will check once a day for two minutes just doesn't sound appealing to me.
another thing is, it's an incredible idea that we can all become friends, and share ideas oh so quickly through various websites. i like hearing new thoughts, interesting stories, etc. i try not to let closed-minded ideas bother me, but when they are so LOUD, i feel almost forced to say something (most of the time i don't, at least not to them) but i continually get surprised by some peoples ignorance, or just plain laziness. and every once in a while i get annoyed by the fact that i am so open to other peoples opinions (at least to hear them) yet they don't want to listen to mine, or the other side, or anything else for that matter.
latest annoyance; people who are so upset over the stimulus package (i am not saying it is perfect by any means) but we have been driven into this hole for years and these people were not saying a word, in fact they were boasting how great things were when the truth is they weren't. and now that a positive, smart, big picture kind of person is trying to change that i just wish more people would have patience, give him and this country's spirit the benefit of the doubt. believe in the greater good and try to contribute personally.
i will continue to try not to respond to certain people and fuel their negative ideas. but be prepared for a somewhat charged blog from time to time in order to vent some of these feelings.... thank you, and goodnight.

engagement photos

good morning! we have officially hired my very talented brother-in-law chris to do our wedding pictures. we started last week with a few pictures downtown right across the street from our wedding venue. it started off cheesy, and funny. but by the end, the sunset was just right, perfect hair blowing wind, and some random cool graffiti as our backdrop. i feel like there is a little breathing room right now with planning... however we are still trying to pick a caterer and probably will do so in the next two weeks. we have our first softball game tomorrow, hopefully it doesn't rain and all will be well. i made this delicious "summer pasta" i like to call it, that my mom used to (and still does) make. it's perfect on a warm summer day to eat on the patio. but i just had to make it sooner... cook regular spaghetti pasta and let it cool, then add (whatever you want really) cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, a little garlic, and cover it all with italian dressing. keep it cool in the fridge. love it.

oh, deer
yesterday i was out with one of the girls i mentor (they call them mentees but that just sounds like a breath mint to me, so i'm trying to come up with a new name) and we were driving back to her house along this long windy road. an area where we often see deer and turkeys. suddenly she asked me, "do deers live under ground?" and sadly, i had to pause and think about it.... i knew they didn't but i questioned "where DO they live?" so i responded "no... they live on ground, above ground... in.... fields... by, leaves, and trees. they kind of just hang out in fields, and probably sleep near other deers.. by trees... and grass."

first day of stress
yesterday was a fun day spent mostly playing outside in lawrence with my mom, sister, and nephew. but it was also a day where i first felt the stress of planning a wedding that most people talk about. it was short lived, and when i remember to keep things in perspective, not a big deal. but it is interesting the things you come across when planning a wedding. so much preparation for one day. granted, it deserves all the time spent but at the end of the day it should be a great time for the bride and groom. a time of the most celebration with the people you want to celebrate with. i know that you can't please everyone. i also know it is most important to stick with what matt and i want and envision for this day.
kestan and i went to the park this morning, we walked than he fell asleep in the stroller so i layed on a park bench for over and hour. i worked through our guest list, and read a book, and than i just layed there staring up at the trees and feeling the warm sun on my skin and the breeze in my hair. i needed that nothingness, which was also something. i have to remind myself that i can just be, i don't always have to be reading, drawing, watching, moving, it's a good time to attempt to quiet my thoughts.
driving home with the windows down, the idea of eating the rest of my turkey sandwich was not appealing. i went to a great mexican restaurant and bought chicken fajitas for my lunch. it was a nice treat.

heyo

hi! things have been very busy, but very fun. i have been gone from the house for 14 hours a day (not every day but a few times) and people that have to or chose to do that all the time... i just couldn't do it. i miss matt, i miss our dogs, i miss being at home. but if i had to pick a busy to be, this is the one i would pick. hanging with my nephew all day, softball practice, team dinners, a girls basketball game, being outside, field trips, spending time as a mentor, and eventually relaxing. this kind of weather fills my soul, i love it. although i have officially started wearing sunscreen. awesome. today we are going to see my mom, and then my dad and shannon. i had to borrow this picture from shannon.. kestan a little while ago playing in the leaves.

i had a dream i met tina fey
30 rock, anyone? matt and i think it is if not the best at least top three best shows ever. the jokes are quick witted like i've never seen, relevant, and smart. i think it would be a dream to write for that show, let alone be on it. i dreamt last night, very vividly that i was at the oscars and i won some fan thing and i met oprah, tina fey and steve martin. and no matter how cool and casual i wanted to seem, i just kept thinking of stupid things that i am sure they had heard a hundred times before. thankfully it was just a dream, i'm sure i'd be much more suave in real life. no, i wouldn't.
matt and i are going to see louis c.k. tonight, he is a very funny, kind of angry comedian. we haven't been to a show in years and it will be so fun to sit front row and just laugh.
i have been trying to think of fun wedding stuff, felted flowers for center pieces (hasn't worked out too well yet), some funky cupcake recipes, and overall decorations. did i mention how excited i am about all of it? for reals. bye!
